History behind starting of Durga Puja :

Before the day of Janmastami, in the morning Shrimoti Hemangini Dey Sarkar found a wooden plank (Goran Kath) on the bank of River Ganga. She took that plank and brought home but Ramanath Dey Sarkar told his main servant Rambabu to throw that plank again in the river Ganga. Later at that night Shri Ramanath Dey Sarkar saw a dream where he got advice to bring that plank from River Ganga and worship that plank as Devi Durga. From that year DEY SARKAR FAMILY Durga puja was held in the Narayanpur (now Baishnabghata). Wooden plank Puja is held on the day of Janmastami every year and the wood is placed from the chest and extended upto the leg within the structure of Devi Durga.
